What have we forgotten?

If you have been following any of my posts here you have probably noticed that every so often I get on my soapbox and rant about the current sate of things in our economy. Most notably I question whether anyone in our government or news media has ever really studied and understood the basic laws of attraction that are followed so closely by successful entrepreneurs and businesses. That's an overstatement, of course, you can easily spot someone who's learned The Secret during an interview or newscast. You just don't feel the same doom, gloom and foreboding when you listen to them.

Proponents of The Secret realize that thought precedes reality and that you must actually be able to conjure up a successful economic plan in your mind before you can take action to make it a reality. Recounting the horrors of bank failures, mortgage foreclosures and the adjunct suffering of the people involved on a daily basis is interesting from a historic and sociological perspective but serves little purpose in creating a healthy, wealthy society. How often do you see the media actually focus on those who are prospering or have overcome the current state of things through creative thought and action? It's not that I'm without empathy or minimizing the plight of those caught in the gloom mill. It's just that we need to shift our focus toward positive thought and action to make any real progress.
